eBooks Entering the Publishing Mainstream

The e-books are here to stay.  The e-book scene is also becoming more and more exciting and entering a new phase with the launch of Adobe’s Digital Edition.

Tim O’Reilly of  O’reilly Media says “the future of publishing is no longer tied to the printed page, yet the rich heritage of print and the sheer usability of print mean that we can’t leave it behind. Meanwhile, reflowable XML content allows for the kind of agility and remixability that readers have come to expect on the Web, but getting it to print has always meant jumping through hoops. A new publishing platform that joins the benefits of print and online into one seamless experience is the holy grail of publishing.”

This is exactly what the new Adobe Reader does for e-book publishing.

The beta version can be downloaded instantly and installs and opens PDF format e-books faster than the PDF reader.

Users can create an entire library of e-books.  Files can be dragged and dropped into different shelves organized on subject, source or topics.  The users of the e-books library can view the items by cover thumbnails or as a detailed list.  The list is categorized as Author, publisher, date added etc.

Another unique feature is the reader can access the last book read and start from where he left off.  The interface offers flexible reading modes such as single page, facing page and a zoom mode.

So e-book lovers just click over to http://adedemo.com take a look at the demo library that you can create through Adobe Digital Editions.  There are plenty of e-books to download.  You can also download your own copy of the Adobe Digital Editions.

With such products entering the ebook market there is no doubt that the books are entering the mainstream of publishing.
